Burnt Ranch Gorge on the Trinity River in Northern California is known worldwide for its challenging water and beautiful scenery.   Its rapids are labyrinthian flows of transparent green and frothy whitewater through truck-sized boulder, speckled with smaller rocks.  The canyon is deep and narrow, bordered by Ironside Mountain on the right.   Simply stunning, this technical, furious and heart-pounding run is accessible for those with previous whitewater experience and demonstrated skill level.

approaching Jaws, Burnt Ranch Gorge Trinity River Rafting is priviliged to be one of four outfitters offering trips on this demanding run. Because we realize how astounding it is to descend through this magnificent gorge, we desired to make it accessable to more than the most experienced, daring, and fittest by offering a Class IV trip on the first half of the gorge. In this section, above Burnt Ranch Falls Number One, the rapids are shorter and not as steep. They still have the tight slots and much of the magnificent scenery as the remainder of the gorge run. Paddle boats are required, with full participation, but an eager, adventurous person with moderate experience and a knowledgable guide can enjoy this section. This class IV trip ends with a one mile hike out of the river canyon.

BURNT RANCH GORGE--CLASS IV, 2 DAY $200
BURNT RANCH GORGE--CLASS V, 2 DAY $250

Klamath River, Class III

Early explorers mistakenly believed that the Trinity River emptied into Trinidad Bay; hence giving it its name. In actuality, the larger Klamath River receives the Trinity River's waters before they empty into the ocean. The splashy Klamath has abundant wildlife and sandbars that make it great for overnight adventures. It's character and scenery resembles the Trinity, but on a larger scale. Trips are run from Happy Camp to above Somes Bar, and below Somes Bar on the "Ikes". Prior planning is required so that the trip does not overlap the Karuk and Yurok Indian's sacred ceremonies.
